Garranah Properties is a planned residential and commercial subdivision development proposed for two adjoining tracts of land along the Cairo to Alexandria Highway. The site is split into two use zones by a major thoroughfare with commercial and business facilities located on the southwest and a fifty lot, residential village on the northwest. The residential development has been integrated with an existing grove of non-production Peach trees to create a garden atmosphere. The orthogonal grid pattern of the orchard provided a framework for organizing the network of streets and residential lots. A single, controlled entrance to the site provides security for the residential village. The entrance road terminates at the Community Sports Club, which includes a swimming pool, exercise room, tennis and squash courts and a clubhouse. Prototypical houses were designed for the fifty residential tracts including three, four, and five bedroom models, each with its own garage and servants’ quarters. The houses make use of general characteristics of the local architecture; each site is enclosed by a wall creating private outdoor court space, which includes fruit trees from the existing orchard.
